Harris County, Texas, is taking Roving Meadows Utilities Inc. to court, accusing the company of dumping wastewater into county ditches in clear violation of the Texas Water Code and Clean Water Act.
- Officials say the facility’s negligence has led to E. coli levels more than 1,000 times the legal limit, putting public health at serious risk.
The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), which has inspected the site seven times since 2021, keeps finding the same thing—raw sewage leaking onto the ground. Despite repeated warnings, Roving Meadows, based outside Houston, has allegedly done little to fix the problem.
The county wants a court order forcing the company to stop the pollution and clean up its act.
In a Houston Chronicle report, County Attorney Christian Menefee isn’t mincing words about the urgency of the situation: “What makes this case particularly concerning is the potential threat to public health and the environment and the unwillingness to correct these violations. Enough is enough. If you break the law and put people at risk, we will hold you accountable.”
